In real estate, every showing tells a story — sometimes heartwarming, sometimes hilarious, and occasionally unforgettable. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s really like to be a real estate agent in Florida, here’s a peek behind the door (literally!). I once had a showing scheduled for a home owned by a pilot. I was told to call ahead and leave a message so he’d have time to wake up and step out before the appointment. I did exactly that. Unfortunately, he didn’t get the message. When I unlocked the door with my buyers, out came the homeowner — without a stitch of clothing on! He screamed, I screamed, and my buyers were absolutely horrified. We slammed the door and ran. Once the shock faded, we couldn’t help but laugh. Just another day in the life of a Realtor showing homes in Florida!
Of course, not every surprise is so dramatic. Sometimes, you find yourself making beds, pulling weeds, or staging a home on the fly — because those little touches can make a big difference in how a property shows. Then there was the cat incident. I hadn’t been told there was a pet inside, and the moment I opened the door, a furry blur shot past me and disappeared into the neighborhood. Inside was a note that read, “Please don’t let the cat out.” Too late!
After finishing the showing, I spent the next hour driving through the neighborhood calling for the runaway. Eventually, I spotted him lounging under a tree, looking rather smug. I scooped him up, returned him home safely, and added another story to my growing list of funny real estate moments. In this business, no two days are ever the same. From luxury listings to fixer-uppers, showing homes in Belleair and across Tampa Bay is always an adventure. Behind every door is a new story waiting to be told — and that’s what makes being part of the Coldwell Banker Realty family so rewarding.
